Most races in World of Warcraft are based on real life cultures. I tought it would be fun to take a look at some races and see what culture they are based on.

Humans

The human race is based on medieval Europe, mostly England and France.

Pandaren

Pandaren are primarily inspired by ancient Chinese culture, but they also incorporate some Japanese and Korean influences.

Vrykul

Vrykul are based on old Viking culture from countries like Norway, Denmark, Sweden, and Finland.

Worgen

Worgen draw from multiple cultural influences. There is a clear German influence with the Black Forest and werewolf themes, but their clothing and architecture also reflect Gothic and English styles.

Tauren

Tauren are inspired by both Greek mythology and Native American cultures. While they physically resemble the Minotaur from Greek mythology, their cultural elements are more aligned with Native American traditions.

Dwarves

Dwarves are a mix of Scottish and Viking culture. Their accent is clearly Scottish, while their armor style leans more toward Scandinavian. They also have a strong love for beer, which adds a bit of German influence—especially seen in events like Brewfest.

Draenei

The Draenei are inspired by a blend of Eastern European (especially Russian and Byzantine) culture and religious mysticism.

Yaungol

The Yaungol from Pandaria are mostly based on the Mongolian culture.

Tuskar

The Tuskarr are heavily inspired by Indigenous Arctic cultures, particularly the Inuit, Yupik, and other native peoples of Alaska, Northern Canada, and Siberia. Their way of life centers around fishing, whaling, and survival in icy climates, much like these real-world cultures.

Goblin

The Goblins are inspired by a mix of early 20th-century American industrialism, mafia stereotypes, and capitalist excess. Their former leader Gallywix also reminds me of Donald Trump in a way.

Kul Tiran

The Kul Tirans are primarily inspired by 17th-century England, reflected in their language, clothing, and armor. There are also Dutch and German influences, such as the windmills in Stormsong Valley and the witchcraft themes in Drustvar.

Orcs

Orcs are inspired by both Mongolian and Japanese cultures. Their harsh and warlike nature reflects the Golden Horde of Genghis Khan, while some elements of their armor resemble that of samurai.
